Terms of use & photo privacy
ChessQ is a chessboard recognition service operated by Joël Seytre.
Your uploads
By choosing “Recognize board”, you agree that your submitted photo will be stored privately and may be used to train, evaluate, and improve chess recognition models. We also retain the model’s prediction and any thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback you send. Photos can be retained even when recognition fails or your connection is interrupted.
Large photos are resized on your device before upload. We retain the submitted copy.
Your photos will not be shared publicly, published in datasets, or used as public examples. You keep ownership of your photos and grant Joël Seytre permission to use them for these purposes. This permission does not authorize public distribution of your photos.
Retention & contact
Uploaded photos, predictions, and feedback have no automatic expiry and may be kept indefinitely for model improvement. For questions or photo-removal requests, email contact@chessq.org. Keep the photo reference shown when you submit, even after an error, to identify your upload when contacting us. Do not post your photo or reference in a public issue.
Using the service
Only submit photos you have permission to use. Keep people, identifying information, and sensitive material out of the frame. Recognition can make mistakes; check the board before using the result. Corrections you make on the page stay in your browser.
These upload terms apply to hosted web recognition. On-device mobile recognition does not upload your photos through this service.
